PROGRAM OUTCOMES:
Our summer program, Na Keiki O Ka Aina, expanded haumanas’ knowledge of all things 'aina by cultivating compassion and nurturing skills through hands-on, place based learning. Haumana tapped into their Hawaiian culture by learning how to play games such as Ulu Maika, visiting the Bishop Museum, learning about Hawaii's endemic birds, learning about and creating their own Ki'i Pohaku and more.
Haumana also planted, harvested and learned basic cooking and knife skills, which they used to prepare several dishes together. They also participated in several STEM challenges, including creating rockets, building bridges and boats. The keiki also worked in the carpentry shop to build bird houses and catapults. These challenges and activities encouraged teamwork, patience, perseverance, creativity and critical thinking skills.
