PROGRAM OUTCOMES:

The Hui Mālama O Ke Kai Fall 2022 Keiki After-school Youth Development Program and ʻŌpio After-school Leadership Program enrolled 48 participants, of which 92% are Native Hawaiian. Our assessments and surveys are done at the end of the program year, as many participants enroll in more than one session. A complete summary of surveys and assessments will be provided at the conclusion of the program year. 


Preliminary data are as follows for the Fall Program:


  • 102 program hours targeting positive personal development, including pro-social behaviors and knowledge of Native Hawaiian cultural values, language and practices.


  • 82 hours targeting academic support, including increasing the knowledge of ʻāina-based careers, college and career readiness, and support in completion of homework and other school assignments.


  • 30 hours targeting health and wellness, including ocean safety and swimming skills, and nutrition and healthy habits.


  • 184 hours of cultural connectedness, including ocean recreation, and knowledge and practice of Hawaiian language, traditions and values.
