PROGRAM OUTCOMES:

Kula Kaiapuni Kauwela o Molokaʻi is an enrichment program which strives to increase and maintain the use of ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi while developing pilina with kanaka, ʻāina and ʻuhane. Kaiapuni students are encouraged to broaden their vocabulary in these various settings as non Kaiapuni students are introduced to the language in mele, hula and haʻiʻōlelo hoʻolauna. All students are exposed to various wahi pana with accompanying moʻolelo and mele and are encouraged to take stewardship over these wahi whenever they can.

Stewardship begins at the school campus with planting, caring for and harvesting traditional meakanu like kalo, ʻuala and lāʻī. Older students are paired with younger counterparts when engaging in activities like reading, writing and lei making.

Stewardship continues through partnerships with island businesses such as the Molokaʻi Recycling Center, The Waste Water Treatment Facility and the Molokaʻi Occupational Center that teach us about reducing, reusing and recycling our resources.

Stewardship is extended to wahi pana like Moʻomomi, Halawa, Kaunakakai and Pālāʻau - learning about their individual features, resources and histories - again encouraging students to mālama ʻāina by doing beach or area clean ups, recognizing, learning about and caring for native species and being cognizant of our kuleana to preserve these areas for future generations.
