About the event
The Menehune Indigenous Film Festival is a community-based cultural film event rooted in Waianae, HI, designed to showcase Indigenous storytelling through youth-led and community-centered cinema. This festival uplifts Native Hawaiian voices and highlights intergenerational knowledge, providing a professional platform for emerging filmmakers from the Menehune Film Academy and other Indigenous creatives across the Pacific.
The event is more than just a screening; it serves as a cultural gathering. Through film, conversation, and community engagement, we create a space where ʻike kupuna, contemporary creativity, and youth innovation intersect. The festival will feature:
- Documentaries
- Cultural storytelling films
- Youth-produced works
These films reflect Hawaiian identity, land stewardship, ocean culture, and community resilience.
The MIFF centers storytelling as a tool for healing, identity building, and community empowerment.
Hosted by Menehune Film Academy
