ʻŌpio Mākeke Hilo

ʻŌpio Mākeke is a youth-led community marketplace that uplifts keiki and ʻōpio ages 8–18 by providing hands-on opportunities in entrepreneurship, financial literacy, cultural practice, and sustainability. Youth participants create and sell their own products, gaining real-world experience while building confidence, leadership skills, and a sense of purpose.

The program hosts two annual events—one in Hilo during Merrie Monarch and one in Nānākuli in November—bringing together ʻohana, community members, farmers, artisans, and mentors in a safe, welcoming space. Through intergenerational learning and community support, ʻŌpio Mākeke strengthens local economies, honors mālama ʻāina values, and empowers the next generation of leaders across Hawaiʻi.
