About the event
“E māhuahua nā moʻo ʻāina” is an ongoing initiative at the Pacific Internship Programs for Exploring Science (PIPES) at UH Hilo aimed at cultivating both ʻāina and people abundance through traditional Hawaiʻi approaches to natural resource and community science.
This event features a two-part explorative series for partners, mentors, and community members. Participants will engage with our Moʻo ʻĀina Framework, which is designed to enhance community capacity in research, management, and science communication. The Framework includes four key focus areas that reflect traditional Hawaiian knowledge: Naʻau, ʻĀina, Kaiāulu, and Kaʻao.
In the first part of the series, attendees will be introduced to the foundational pillars of the Framework. Following this, participants are encouraged to join a more in-depth exploration of each pillar in the second part. Both sessions will be hosted overnight to maximize learning and engagement opportunities.
