About the event

The Mālama Nā Keiki Festival is a free, community-wide health and wellness event designed to serve approximately 250–300 keiki and their ʻohana from Pepeʻekeo, representing all ages and walks of life. The festival brings together more than 50 community volunteers and service providers for a full Saturday of fun-filled, culturally grounded learning that supports the health and well-being of ʻohana.

Health and wellness services offered onsite will include keiki and ‘ohana health screenings such as:

  • Otitis media testing

  • Vision checks

  • Immunization education

Families will also have access to enrollment and information for essential support services, including:

  • The Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Food and Nutrition Program

  • SNAP

  • Healthy Hāpai - Hui Mālama Ola Nā ‘Ōiwi’s prenatal cohort-based course

Additional safety-focused resources, such as keiki identification cards will be available.

Keiki-centered activities will promote healthy lifestyles through engaging, hands-on learning. These include health and wellness-based games, arts and crafts, Makahiki-inspired fitness activities, and opportunities to learn about lāʻau lapaʻau through planting and potting healing herbs from seedlings. L

Local Hawaiian musicians and keiki fun specialists will contribute to an atmosphere that celebrates culture, community, and joy. Nutritious, locally sourced food will be provided to all attendees.

To encourage active participation, each attendee will receive a “passport” upon arrival, which will be stamped as they complete health education activities. Participants who complete their passport will receive a makana (gift), reinforcing engagement while making learning fun and rewarding. The Mālama Nā Keiki Festival will be offered at no cost to participants or participating wellness agencies, ensuring equitable access to critical health education, services, and resources for Hawai‘i Island families.
