Mālama Maui Nui Art of Trash: Gallery, Trashion Show, and Upcycling Workshop | Mālama Maui Nui

The Art of Trash & Trashion Show is an annual, juried exhibition and celebration that empowers our Maui Nui kaiāulu community to reimagine discarded resources as elements for creative inspiration. Hosted by Mālama Maui Nui, this event has been held since 2009 and will feature three categories for the 2026 event:

• Community gallery (April 18 - May 23): A public exhibition at Maui Mall Village showcasing art created from litter and marine debris collected for our shores and landscapes, curated by a volunteer jury.
• Trashion Show (April 18): An opening ceremony where models, often the artists and community members themselves, walk a runway showcasing their upcycled outfits.
• Keiki Upcycling Workshop (Gallery Day, TBD): A new, hands-on expansion where keiki and their ‘ohana will learn from a loea (expert artist) to transform litter collected by Mālama Maui Nui into their own art, framed by moʻolelo about the ocean and our kuleana to mālama our island home.

This event uniquely weaves together mālama ʻāina, cultural creativity, and learning, turning the act of cleaning our environment into a source of community pride and connection.
