About the event

The intention of the Night Market is three-fold:

  • Support traditional Hawaiian farmers by purchasing a bulk amount of their produce.
  • Create a safe space for ʻohana to gather.
  • Share an immersive experience in aloha ʻāina and ʻike kūpuna with everyone from keiki to kūpuna at Kaʻehu.

Now in its second year of operations, the Night Market has been created for the community here in the ahupuaʻa of Wailuku and for Central Maui at large. We aspire to grow this event to provide even more for our community, including more cultural practitioners, Native Hawaiian vendors, and opportunities for connection and gathering.

This event coincides with our 12th anniversary for Kaʻehu (established August 14, 2014) and will be more celebratory as well. The community looks forward to these gatherings as a space to relax and revisit core aspects of mālama ʻāina and ʻike kūpuna.

This Night Market combines the functionality of our mahiʻai night market with providing small businesses more exposure and opportunities to engage the public. Attendees can participate in activities such as:

  • Facilitating lauhala weavings
  • Enjoying local musicians
  • Receiving lomi from practitioners
  • Taking home produce grown here in Wailuku

We aspire to expand this marketplace to better support not just the mahiʻai but anyone working with ʻāina as part of their own business and practice.
