About the event
The 2026 Lā ʻUlu (Breadfruit Day) at Maui Nui Botanical Gardens is a free event aimed at celebrating Pacific agroforestry and the significance of ʻulu in Hawaiʻi. This event brings together Hawaiian researchers, farmers, ethnobotanists, chefs, and food producers to showcase their work with ʻulu, especially at the beginning of the harvest season.
Attendees can expect a variety of activities including:
- Traditional Hawaiian games and crafts utilizing all parts of the ʻulu tree.
- A plant sale featuring ʻulu tree varieties by partners such as Kahanu Gardens and The Breadfruit Institute.
- Educational presentations from representatives of other Pacific islands.
- Live entertainment and hula performances.
- Cooking demonstrations featuring ʻulu.
- Food vendors offering products made with ʻulu.
- Craft vendors and nonprofit booths.
This year marks the sixth anniversary of Lā ʻUlu, which had an attendance of over 2,000 people in 2025.
