About the event
On November 28, 1843, Hawaiʻi's sovereignty was legally recognized by Great Britain and France through the Anglo-Franco Proclamation. The efforts of our ancestors to achieve such recognition created a domino effect, leading to peace treaties with several countries worldwide and solidifying Hawaiʻi's place in the international realm as a sovereign nation. This date in history is called Lā Kūʻokoʻa, or contemporary Hawaii Independence Day.
To commemorate the great work of King Kauikeaouli, Timoteo Haʻalilio, and William Richards, we celebrate Lā Kūʻokoʻa by hosting this public event for the community. Attendees will gain a stronger sense of identity, engage in cultural activities, and listen to guest speakers and music deeply rooted in aloha ʻāina, along with liberating perspectives of Hawaiʻi consciousness.
We feel it is important to provide a place in the moku of Waiaulu for the community to gather and celebrate.
