About the event

Lā Hoʻihoʻi Ea Hāmākua (LHE Hāmākua) is a community gathering that celebrates Hawaiʻi’s first national holiday, Lā Hoʻihoʻi Ea (Sovereignty Restoration Day). This eleventh annual event is organized by huiMAU and will take place on July 25, 2026, in Paʻauilo, Hāmākua.

The gathering serves as a space of convergence and a catalyst for further aloha ʻāina initiatives and partnerships in the moku of Hāmākua. Our intention is not only to celebrate this important Hawaiian national holiday and its connection to our history of sustainable, independent pasts, but also to gather annually as a community. Attendees can share, learn, envision, and organize around ways to create sustainable, interdependent, thriving futures for our ʻāina and people here in Hāmākua, in an independent Hawaiʻi.

The celebration features a full day of free entertainment, including:

  • Hawaiian music and music about Ea

  • Intermissions with history and education

  • Activities such as hana noeau (kapa making, kuʻi ʻai, hōlua)

  • Family-friendly activities conducted by local hui and organizations

  • Local vendors
