The Kapa Makeke is a free public cultural marketplace celebrating Hawaiʻi's kapa-making traditions. This community event features:
- Live demonstrations by kapa practitioners
- Hands-on workshops teaching traditional techniques
- Moʻolelo (storytelling) sessions about kapa's cultural significance
- Vendor booths where at least 10 kapa practitioners display and sell their handcrafted products
Visitors engage directly with cultural knowledge holders, witness the complete kapa creation process from wauke bark to finished fabric, and support practitioners economically through their purchases.
