About the event
Kipaepae Honolulu is a public gathering to celebrate the acquisition of the Ahupuaa of Honolulu in Puna, Hawaiʻi. This land was acquired by the County of Hawaiʻi Public Access Open Space and Natural Resources Preservation Commission (PONC) to preserve and perpetuate the historical, cultural, and archaeological features of the ancient Hawaiian village settlement within the 364 acres of this parcel.
The event will feature presentations of hula, oli, and mele to honor the rich significance of this coastal gem and acknowledge the generous support of the Hawaiʻi County Administration and County Council Members, along with a multitude of individuals and the community.
Participants will include ʻohana, community members, cultural and lineal descendants, and partners. Attendees will also learn about the areaʻs notable history and have the opportunity to view and explore the remains of former dwellings, livestock and farming enclosures, as well as religious altars and burial mounds nestled among groves of Niu and Hala.
