About the event
Kaiāulu Drift Day is a free, open-to-the-public community gathering designed to strengthen bonds within Koʻolaupoko through culturally grounded, hands-on STREAMY learning. This encompasses Sciences, Technologies, Reading, Research, Remuneration, Engineering, Electronics, Arts, ʻĀina, Mathematics, Mele, Moʻomeheu, and You.
This event is presented under Ka Makani Kaili Koa’s Under the Helmet Initiative and its fiscally sponsored partner Project K4’s D.R.I.V.E. framework:
- Design with Purpose
- Research with Curiosity
- Innovate with Heart
- Visualize the Future
- Engineer Your Path
Under the Helmet draws from the metaphor of the ʻipu ʻike—the understanding that knowledge is gathered through disciplined observation of ʻāina, experimentation, cultural grounding, and collective reflection. The D.R.I.V.E. framework operationalizes that ʻike by guiding participants to transform intention into responsible innovation.
This event model has been successfully implemented at KawaiKon and in invitation-based public events hosted in premium venues—including the Hawaiʻi Convention Center and the Neal S. Blaisdell Exhibition Hall—where KMKK was offered space at no cost due to demonstrated operational credibility and safety discipline. Kaiāulu Drift Day adapts that proven framework into a place-based Koʻolaupoko community activation centered on mālama and lōkahi.
