About the event
The FarmKineTings Mālama Kai & Keiki Ocean Clinic Series will take place on April 25, August 29, and December 12, 2026. These free, public gatherings are designed to strengthen kaiāulu connections through hands-on ocean stewardship, cultural learning, and youth skill development.
Each event will begin with a guided mālama kai beach cleanup where keiki, ʻohana, and community members actively care for our shoreline. Participants will learn about watershed-to-ocean connections, marine debris impacts, and traditional Hawaiian values of maloʻole ʻāina and kuleana. Rather than simply collecting trash, families will engage in educational discussions that connect environmental stewardship to cultural practice and identity.
Following the cleanup, keiki will participate in structured bodyboard clinics led by experienced water safety mentors. These clinics emphasize ocean awareness, hoʻoponopono (respect for one another in the water), and safety protocols, while building confidence through skill development. Youth will gain both practical ocean skills and a deeper understanding of their relationship to kai as a living resource.
Cultural practitioners and community mentors will integrate ʻike kūpuna and place-based moʻolelo to ground the experience in Hawaiian values. The events are designed to be interactive, educational, and empowering — fostering leadership, strengthening ʻohana bonds, and reinforcing a collective kuleana to care for our coastal environments.
Through these gatherings, participants will not only mālama our beaches but also strengthen identity, resilience, and belonging within our kaiāulu.
