Hōʻikeʻike Loko Iʻa: From Kilo to Camera | Hui Hoʻoleimaluō

Hui Hoʻoleimaluō proposes a public kaiāulu hoʻike-style learning event that showcases ʻike developed by local high school students through a summer intensive focused on natural resource observation and stewardship of loko iʻa. This event will invite the broader community to engage with multiple methods of ʻike gathering — from ancestral kilo (keen observation) practices to physical surveying and contemporary underwater camera technology.

The event will be structured as an interactive, station-based experience where students, guided by cultural practitioners and community mentors, demonstrate what they have learned and invite participants to actively engage in the learning process. Stations may include:
