About the event
Hāpai Kūpuna is a resource fair and celebration aimed at gathering East Maui’s kūpuna, caregivers, and ʻohana. This event, which translates to "uplifting our elders," was initiated in recognition of the challenges many elders face in accessing essential services that enhance their quality of life.
The event supports the existing efforts of Ma Ka Hana Ka ʻIke’s elder-focused initiative, Mālama I Nā Hulu Kūpuna, by connecting East Maui kūpuna to vital support services. Hāpai Kūpuna also offers a celebratory atmosphere with free music, food, and lomi.
As a one-day event, Hāpai Kūpuna plans to “fast-track” initial outreach and needs assessments for elders across our rural district. This year will mark the fourth annual Hāpai Kūpuna event, and each year has seen improvements in our capacity to engage both local kūpuna-serving partner organizations and Ma Ka Hana Ka ʻIke vocational youth participants in the preparation and execution of the event.
The event will take place at the Hāna High and Elementary School gym, which is wheelchair accessible and accommodating regardless of weather conditions.
Hosted by Ma Ka Hana Ka ʻIke.
