About the event
The annual Hana No‘eau Hawaiian Arts Festival takes place at the Hilo Hawaiian Hotel on historic Hilo Bay. This festival is dedicated to the perpetuation of Hawaiian culture and arts, providing a venue for Hawaiʻi’s master artists and producers to share their talent and mana‘o.
Hana No‘eau is often translated as “art,” encompassing a wide array of creativity, including visual arts, literary arts, and performing arts that connect the past, present, and future. Attendees can expect:
- Exhibitions from some of Hawaiʻi’s finest artisans and producers of Hawaiian arts and crafts
- Cultural demonstrations and workshops, including:
- Na Ki’i carving by Kanani Kaulukukui
- Lomi Massage and La’au Lapa’au by Ikaika Dombrigues
- Lei Hulu by Gaye Covington and Koa Chang
- Hawaiian Weapons and Makahiki Games by Rudy Valentino
- Pahu Drum making by Keoni Turalde
- Lei making by Marcia Timboy
- Art demonstrations by the HIAA
- Live Hawaiian entertainment featuring Darlene Ahuna, Gavien Mata, Nailima Gaison and Friends, Christy Lasiter, and Makaiwa Kanui
- 'Ono mea‘ai prepared by Chef Jason
The festival will also include makahiki games for keiki, allowing them to engage in Hawaiian game culture.
Scheduled for August 15 and 16, 2026, the Hana No‘eau Hawaiian Arts Festival will be held in the Moku Ola Ballroom at the Hilo Hawaiian Hotel. Festival hours are from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm on both days. This is a FREE event.
