About the event

The Hana Laulima Lāhui O Kaʻū Hawaiian Cultural Festival, to be held in November, is offered as an hoʻokupu to the ʻāina and people of Kaʻū. This community gathering is rooted in Hana Laulima—working together to uplift ʻike Hawaiʻi, strengthen lāhui connections, and honor the traditions passed down by our kūpuna.

The festival will create a welcoming space where kūpuna, cultural practitioners, educators, and youth come together to share ʻike through ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi, hula, mele, moʻolelo, and hands-on cultural practices connected to ʻāina. Families and community members will participate in workshops, performances, and ʻike-sharing activities that affirm Native Hawaiian identity and encourage intergenerational learning.

By gathering in this way, the festival supports the well-being of our people—spiritually, culturally, and socially—while nurturing pride, belonging, and kuleana within the Kaʻū community. This event lays the foundation for an annual cultural gathering that continues to grow through collective effort and aloha ʻāina.
