About the event
This workshop is an immersive, hands-on learning experience where up to 20 participants will be guided through the traditional process of transforming a natural gourd into a functional vessel (‘umeke) for holding leis and other precious items.
Each participant will create their own ‘umeke and personalize it using wood-burning techniques, expressing their individual artistry through original designs. Instruction will cover proper preparation methods while learning the cultural significance of gourds as containers.
