Christmas On the Avenue

Ahupuaʻa o Nānākuli Homestead proudly presents Christmas on the Avenue, a free public community event designed to foster unity, economic development, cultural connection, and sustainable community engagement. This multi-generational celebration brings together schools, churches, nonprofit organizations, small businesses, and families to cultivate a culture of aloha rooted in ʻike (knowledge), kuleana (responsibility), and mālama (care).

With over 90 vendors annually, the event creates meaningful economic opportunities for local small businesses during the holiday season while also expanding access to essential community resources. Beginning in 2025, resource vendors have become a cornerstone of the event’s growth and impact. Organizations such as Uluaʻe Learning Center and Ka Waihona o ka Naʻauao provide culturally grounded programming focused on mālama ʻāina, environmental stewardship, and hands-on learning experiences that strengthen youth identity and connection to kai and ʻāina.

Christmas on the Avenue enhances educational opportunities by integrating rich Hawaiian culture, ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi, and moʻolelo specific to Nānākuli Valley. Event emcees host in both English and ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi, sharing stories that uplift the history and significance of our ahupuaʻa. In 2025, banners and flyers will further expand cultural visibility.

From keiki to kūpuna, the event empowers participants to lead in their strengths and talents, strengthening connections to ʻohana, community, and ʻāina. By creating a safe, inclusive, and culturally vibrant space, Christmas on the Avenue builds lasting partnerships and encourages community ownership for generations to come.
