About the event

Kaiāulu Initiatives is hosting the 2nd Annual Aloha to Graduation: Lei-Making Workshop in May 2026. This culturally grounded workshop will be held over two weekends leading up to graduation season and will provide hands-on instruction in three traditional styles of Hawaiian lei.

Participants will learn about:

  • Proper cultural protocol

  • Traditional plant uses

  • Foundational lei-making techniques

Designed to serve Lahaina’s keiki and families, the workshop strengthens cultural perpetuation, builds practical self-sufficiency, and reduces reliance on costly store-bought leis. Beyond the craft itself, the event creates an intergenerational space for connection, pride, and community healing as Lahaina continues to rebuild.
