ʻĀina Education Professional Learning Program Hōʻike

This event will showcase the projects of 20 DOE teachers who have engaged in an ʻāina education professional learning program over the past year. This collaborative program involves Kākoʻo ʻŌiwi, the Heʻeia National Estuarine Research Reserve, and other community partners.

The event will be interactive, allowing audience members to participate in a gallery walk to learn about and provide feedback on the teachers’ projects. These projects range from biological stream studies to kilo journals aimed at improving literacy, as well as school plays based on local moʻolelo.

Kākoʻo ʻŌiwi will host the event, showcasing its loʻi, wetland, and agroforest restoration projects, along with its value-added kitchen facility. This highlights potential future educational collaborations.

Participants will engage with teachers and guest speakers in a final reflection/discussion about the mosaic of ʻāina education efforts happening in the Koʻolau area. This will also cover opportunities for future growth as a collective. Guest speakers, who are experienced educators from organizations involved in ʻāina restoration, will deliver opening and closing remarks.
