About the event
The 7th Annual Legacy Prince Kuhio event is scheduled at Kalanianaole Beach Park (formerly Nanakuli Beach Park) in Waiʻanae, Oʻahu. This festival aligns with the Hawaiian Homestead Commission Act, which benefits homestead beneficiaries, and pays tribute to Prince Jonah Kuhio Kalanianaole, the author of the Hawaiian Homes Commission Act (HHC) of 1920.
The festival aims to educate attendees about the historical significance and ongoing impact of the HHCA. It serves to reinforce community pride in the achievements and rights gained through Prince Kuhio's leadership, enhancing public understanding of the importance of homestead lands and communities today.
Highlights of the festival include:
- Cultural Education and Preservation: Engage with traditional Hawaiian art and crafts.
- Mele and Hula: Enjoy performances from local community members.
- Cultural Demonstration: Participate in a cultural demonstration led by Kumu Meyers, emphasizing the importance of maintaining cultural identity that aligns with the mission of the HHCA.
- Vendor Spaces: Explore offerings from food vendors, crafters, artisans, and homestead families.
- Nonprofit and Service Providers: Connect with organizations sharing vital information and services along the Waiʻanae Coast.
This event strengthens the future of homestead communities, continuing the mission of Prince Kuhio to keep Hawaiian people connected to their land, culture, and identity.
Hosted by Wai'anae Coast Community Foundation (WCCF).
