About the event
In 2025, Kaiāulu sponsored ʻIewe Hānau O Ka ʻĀina (ʻIHOKA) in partnership with Ka ʻOhana O Honuʻapo (KOOH) to host the first annual Lā ʻOhana at Honuʻapo. We had approximately 200 attendees from the Kaʻū community that came out to enjoy a day of fun, food, and entertainment. With such positive responses to the event, we were asked to host it again!
Kaʻū hosts many Makahiki events, and this is a great kick start to the season. Makahiki is a time of coming together and relaxing, and we intend for the community to do just that at Lā ʻOhana.
We plan to offer:
- Hula as entertainment
- An MC to guide the event
- Food catered by a local ʻohana
- ʻĀina-based workshops hosted by experts in various fields (last year included lāʻau lapaʻau, pū ʻohe, kāpala, and lei making)
This year, we will have different workshop hosts than the year prior and will incorporate feedback to improve the event experience. Our goals include making the event more zero-waste friendly and providing comfortable seating arrangements for kūpuna.
The community loved the event in 2025, and we would be honored to offer it again. It is important to note that all of the funds from Kaiāulu went back to the community last year.
