About the event
The Season of Light, hosted by Hawai‘i Care Choices, is an annual community gathering designed to support individuals and families grieving the loss of loved ones during the holiday season.
This event offers a space of comfort, reflection, and remembrance, welcoming participants from all backgrounds. It honors Hawai‘i’s cultural traditions through mele, hula, and practices that celebrate those who have passed.
In partnership with Kamehameha Schools Hawai‘i Campus, haumāna will share mele with the community. Local hula hālau will also perform dances that convey stories of love, healing, and connection.
The candlelight ceremony invites attendees to reflect on cherished memories and find unity with others who are experiencing similar loss. Through light, song, and shared cultural practice, the Season of Light reminds us that our relationships continue and that no one walks the path of grief alone.
