About the event
Hana Laulima Lāhui O Kaʻū’s Prince Kūhiō Day Hoʻolauleʻa is an annual community event that honors the life and legacy of Prince Jonah Kūhiō Kalanianaʻole. This event celebrates his enduring contributions to Native Hawaiian well-being and civic leadership.
Held in Kaʻū, the Hoʻolauleʻa promotes:
Cultural preservation
Local entrepreneurship
Community engagement
Participants can enjoy Hawaiian music, hula performances, cultural demonstrations, educational activities, and a variety of local food and artisan vendors. The event serves as a gathering space that strengthens cultural identity, fosters intergenerational knowledge sharing, and builds community connection.
The Hoʻolauleʻa acts as a mini model for the anticipated Kaʻu Hawaiian Cultural Center, which will showcase the talents and products of the people of Kaʻū and help preserve Hawaiian culture for future generations.
