PROGRAM OUTCOMES:

During the Ola i ka ʻĀina summer program, participants visited wahi pana to learn about cultural practices and traditions such as ʻūhau pōhaku, hana loʻi and mahiʻai, and mālama kahawai. Participants practiced oli, mele, and pule. They collaborated with one another to create lessons to share and presented their products. They reflected upon their learning and used their experiences to inform their lesson development. Hawaiian language was used 75% of the time, as a number of the participants were Hawaiian language speakers. The program achieved its goal to provide huakaʻi and experiences grounded in ʻike kupuna and ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi to its participants. This further aided in accomplishing the programʻs second goal of developing aloha ʻāina leaders via these cultural experiences and the opportunities to further develop as alakaʻi by creating and presenting learning materials. Papahana Aloha ʻĀina Hawaiʻi was honored to work and learn alongside the participants to mālama our ʻāina and grow as people. Mahalo.
